DOLL: Phoenix's Mark by Softfang DOLL: Phoenix's Mark by Softfang
Like the mighty Phoenix,
Once again I rise from the flames set to destroy me
And take flight.

I am stronger.
Glorious.
Powerful.
Victorious.

This isn't a free base... the blank one is in the credited person's gallery...

"Base" is not the same as copying a real, copyrighted image.

She didn't copy it. Someone else made a base of the original picture and she used that base. She gave credit to the base maker in the description. Do you know how bases work? :I

Despite where she took the base from, it's still a copy of an original art (which is in a pricey artbook). She should take care of what she'd chosen.

//sigh..
I'm not even going to try and argue. Most bases are made from someone else's art, if you didn't know. It doesn't matter if it's from a pricey artbook or not. If you're so against bases, maybe point that out not on a used base? Or on a base? Because noone's going to listen.
I respect your opinion, but in all honesty, noone's going to listen to it if it's on a used base itself. :I

For me it's the same as you'd guard the existence of demotivation posters, wallpapers and colouring of original manga lineart. It's a copyrighted "base" and added your own "invention" to it as well. I am "fighting" for the rights that are not thought of, yet written and labelled in Deviantart policies. That's not arguing, by the way. It's just a discussion.
By saying what you say, I wonder if you'd read the DeviantArt policy about copyrighted works and fanart (I know, it's not a fanart, but those two FAQ go with one another and it's better to read both). For me it's not thievery, yet lack of knowledge that leads to ignorance.
The worst thing is that ignorance which comes from author of that base as well as the user of it (meaning *Softfang here, but as well as other users) who does nothing to care for the originality and the rules. If *Softfang would do something about that deviation, I'd be glad. It's a bit sad to see people going "white knight" about a thing that's not even theirs.
